Swedish-born Carin Nilson studied in New York from 1922 to 23, at Gottfrid Larsson's art school from 1925 to 27 and at the Academy of Art in Stockholm from 1928 to 30. She also traveled to Paris and studied at the Académie Colarossi and with Charles Despiau, Henry Arnold and Antoine Bourdelle at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. Nilson undertook a large number of study trips to, among others, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Germany, England and Belgium.
