Sarah has been working with clay for around 10 years, creating pieces that are both practical and delightfully unique. Her work has a lovely, organic feel, which she believes adds to the joy of using her plates and bowls and other creations. The handmade quality of each piece is something she truly celebrates — and so do we.
What we especially love is that no two pieces are alike, and each has its own story to tell. As a publisher, Sarah enjoys weaving in literary references — lines from novels, snippets of poems and quotes from beloved writers all find their way into her work.
We asked Sarah a few questions about her work.
Your pieces often features quotes or sayings. How do you choose them?
Things I read and things I find inspirational, things that seem to register some truth, or things that I find funny.
Is there a particular quote in this collection that feels especially meaningful to you?
“Hope” is the thing with feathers - by Emily Dickinson. This wonderful poem is such a brilliant celebration of Hope. I think it has always contained an incredible truth and at the moment I feel it is more important and inspiring than ever. Without hope we don’t have much to build our actions and aspirations on.
Hope appears as a recurring theme, and your work often touches on love, kindness and humanity. Are these personal reflections, observations about the world, or both?
Both I think. We are united in the desire for love, for security, for things to work out well in our lives. Hope is absolutely core to that fundamental human aspiration. I believe in the goodness of people, I believe in the power to change, I believe that even in dark times things can get better. I have had conversations with people who have found this belief enraging ... but I can’t seem to shake it :)
