Penelope van Hoorn is a contemporary abstract artist whose paintings are built through layers of colour, texture and form. Working intuitively, she gradually adds, obscures and reveals elements of each composition, creating works that feel organic, energetic and full of movement. Her background in graphic design brings a strong sense of composition and visual balance, while her painting practice is deliberately more instinctive and exploratory.
Van Hoorn holds an MA in Design Studies from Central Saint Martins and worked as a graphic designer for many years before becoming a full-time artist in 2023. She has exhibited at the Saatchi Art Other Art Fair in London in 2024 and 2025, and her work has been acquired by Agnes Gund, former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
