Vivian Bewick (1912-1999) was one of the Buckhurst Hill Community Association's most outstanding and longest-serving tutors. A descendant of Thomas Bewick, the famous 19th century engraver of birds and animals, he designed and carry out a series of murals in Bedford House in 1952. Bewick was one of a group of artists who founded Bedford House after the Second World War.
Bewick exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Paris Salon, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, and the Royal Society of British Artists.
