Erland Melanton studied at the Higher School of Art and Design in Stockholm (1938-1943) before becoming a teacher of watercolor painting at the School of Art in 1946. He also studied mosaic techniques at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna (1946-1947) and mural painting at the Conservatory of Florence in 1949.
He was a professor of painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm from May 1963 and is represented at the National Museum in Stockholm.
